A black bear. Staring back at you, midstride, mid trail. All stop. You find yourself muttering a few choice unrepeatable words. What to do? Make noise, look big! Ya, make noise look big!! The black bear is just as startled. He high tails it into the woods and you do an about face and walk as briskly as humanly possible in the opposite direction from whence you came. A true story. Talk about an adrenalin rush. Where is a camera when you need it? I don’t think I would have even had a chance to take a picture it all happened rather quickly.

Oh my gosh Susan!!! Carry bear spray girl!!! Love your sketch though. It’s too bad bears are so dangerous cause they certainly are cute.

Oh I know, bear spray, yes! Totally unexpected encounter on a trail I take all the time. Shows me how much we are encroaching more on their territory every year. Thank you Rhonda.

Yes! In fact we had a mama and her baby bear in our backyard a few years ago. This is the reason I don’t go walking around here. We’re right against the national forest. 😳 And my husband spied evidence a bear had left a present on the grass the other day.

wow! I stood in front of a few wild boars with their youngsters once and I was scared, I can imagine you feel the blood running at high speed true your head! good to have it catch it in a illustration!

Thank you Edo. Wild boars would raise the hairs on my head as much as a bear. Pretty sure of that. Boars are dangerous too aren’t they?

They sure are, with their 8″tooth they rip your leg open in one go!
