Watercolor and ink on paper. I was happy to spot a pair of Kingfishers near our boat this weekend. They were busily doing what they do best, fishing. They sit and watch the water then of a sudden will dive beak first into the water. Usually loners like our neighborhood heron a pair seemed like a bonus. Next I will have to attempt painting the local raptor an Osprey.
Nice Kingfisher, I can see you really took the time to get the lighting right on the eye. I also like how you can see your pen strokes, and the texture on the birds feathers.

I saw a Belted Kingfisher for the first time this summer using my binoculars. I agree with Deborah, they do not like to sit still very long!
Your painting is fabulous Susan!! 💗💙❤️

Hi Jill. No they don’t sit for long. I lucked out. Perhaps fishing was slow. Unusual to see them here at all. Fascinating watching them.

I love this! It took me years to nail a good photo of a Belted Kingfisher. They’re so skittish here. Seeing two that stayed still long enough for you to paint is amazing!

Yes they are very active. But the one sat long enough watching the water waiting for a catch. They have been very busy and visable this weekend but again for the most part my imagination at work. Hopefully a close rendition. Fun to watch.
