I was asked to paint some purple Iris’s awhile back. Several months ago actually. I decided that it was time to see if I was up to the challenge. The photos are of my step by step process, progress and changes. Still very much a work in progress but I thought I would share anyway. I am enjoying myself and I am embracing my purple and violet hues, again. No photo reference, all original. Talk about flying by the seat of my pants. Ha ha!
Work in progress. Artist Susan Feniak. Golden Artist Acrylics on a 20″ x 20″ gallery canvas.
Nice Irises, its interesting how you started with a red background.

Thank you Shawn. Lately I have started almost every painting with an under coat of some sort. Usually a mix of lights and darks to establish values.
