Flamingos at Christmas?

If you were wondering what’s next, no worries.  I knew all along.  It had to be Flamingos.  The perfect follow up to Christmas elephants and giraffes.  It is snowing where I live today so I had to think of warmer places. These two helped. Artist Susan Feniak.  Original art using Koi watercolour on Strathmore card stock.

#WorldWatercolorMonth #SelfieArt Day July 25

IMG_20160725_085339#WorldWatercolorMonth and #SelfieArt Day  July 25  So here I am being brave again!  Not only have I tackled a selfie but I am showing myself swimming!  Of course it helps I am in the beautiful waters of the Caribbean.  Grand Turks Caicos.  By now all of you should know I love the water.  Whether it is some far away winter escape or here on the sunny shores of the Shuswap.  Most photos of me involve the water some where.  So why not paintings too?

A Belize Memory

original art by Susan Feniak  acrylic on 18”x24” box canvas

Yes, another memory of Belize!  I can’t help myself.  White sandy beaches, the beautiful waters of the Caribbean lapping at the shore, a gentle breeze rustling the palms.  Besides, I needed another painting for one of the walls of our new house.  And that painting needed to be bright and sunny but relaxing at the same time.  Hope I succeeded.

Cheers, Susan Feniak

Draw a Bird Day

It is the 8th day of the month.  Time to Draw a Bird or in my case paint one.

“Waiting Game” original art by Susan Feniak acrylic on 8” x 10” paper       Whether napping or fishing this Pelican balanced a top that pole, unruffled, in a good stiff Belize breeze for hours.

I look forward to seeing what my fellow bird drawing bloggers are up to this month!  Cheers, Susan

Painting Waiting Game

“All In A Row”

original art by Susan Feniak  acrylic on 18” x 24” box canvas

My first painting of 2016!  Being in need of some sunshine and warmth I recalled this scene from our trip to Belize last winter.  I came across these Pelicans “All In A Row” while riding my bike around Caye Caulker.  The Pelicans are no doubt resting after feeding on the catch of the day or perhaps they are waiting for the next fishing boat to come in.  Maybe they are just sunning themselves.  Whatever they are doing the scene brought back fond memories and that  feeling of sunshine and warmth that I needed.

The Princess

Original Art By Susan Feniak  acrylic on 16” x 16” canvas

She was sitting there amongst the luxury yachts.  An old girl.  In boating world one could say she has lovely lines and character.  Her name, Placencia Princess.  These days she is relegated to tourism and sight seeing cruises in Belize.  I can’t help but wonder about her past life.  I thought her worthy of some attention so I painted this for her.  One Princess to another. 🙂

This painting has been on and off my easel since I got home from Belize last winter.  Until now life got in the way of finishing it.  It was a challenge but here she is in all her splendid glory.

Cheers, Susan

Belize Dreaming

Belize Dreaming

And here is “Belize Dreaming” in its new home.

Original art by Susan Feniak  Acrylic on 18”x24” canvas

Today on a makeshift easel in my new office/studio I finally had time to paint something.  Believe it or not I needed just the right painting for a bathroom in our new house.  The Caribbean colors match perfectly.  This is a view we very much enjoyed last winter.  We spent hours just sitting looking out over the beautiful Caribbean.  A mile away from where we sat the waves were crashing over the Belize Barrier Reef.  On a good day we could hear those waves. Fond memories indeed.

Hope you have been enjoying your summer.  I am happy to be back at my easel, makeshift or not.

Cheers, Susan
