World Watercolor Month 2020

New Life In The Nest

World Watercolor Month 2020. It’s here! Day 1 prompt “Rejoice”. My mind went to a happy place, new life. Ergo this little guy, New Life In The Nest. This year I have decided to make a card everyday for all 31 days of this celebration of art, watercolors, and fun. Let’s try to make this a brighter, happier more colorful world by painting. I hope you can join in this month long celebration. Go to #worldwatercolormonth or worldwatercolormonth.com to find out more. Also check out the shop. All proceeds benefit The Dreaming Zebra Foundation.

The other celebration happening on this July 1 2020? HAPPY CANADA DAY! I am fortunate enough to live in one of the best places in the world. I am beyond grateful for that. Cheers to Canadians. Celebrate safely please.

One of my favorites…

Misty Morning

I had to bring all my art home from Gallery One Fifty today. We live and work on the shore of Shuswap Lake and the lake has decided to flood this year. As of last weekend the lake had risen 17 feet. It does come up every year. But because of a high snow pack in the back country this winter the lake is exceptionally high. Gallery One Fifty decided for safety sake that we artists should get our art out. The gallery will reopen as soon as the flood threat ends and the limitations of COVID 19 are lifted. Meanwhile I will get to enjoy one of my own paintings hanging up in our houseboat summer home. Misty Morning has always been a particular favorite of mine. FYI An artist isn’t supposed to bring all her art home especially all at once. I have no idea where I will put the rest!

Artist Susan Feniak. Golden acrylics on 20″ x 20″ gallery canvas. $200

Mr Heron

Mr Heron

Mr Heron. Also known to me as The Three Buoys Great Blue Heron. He’s back! I think every year I pay respect to the return of the Blue Heron on Shuswap Lake. Such a beautiful bird to watch. Truly a favorite of mine.

Artist Susan Feniak. QoR watercolors and Pixma Micron ink on 8″ x 10″ Fabriano paper.

Embracing Spring

Embracing spring! It snowed where I live. On April 3rd? Seriously? Time to embrace spring. I have added a new mantra, “this too shall pass”, to my all ready over used, “avoid the negative by being positive”. I hope you like this wee chick surrounded by spring colours. Stay well! Stay home. Artist Susan Feniak. QoR watercolor and ink on Strathmore Vision paper.

Meanwhile Back At The Nest

It is not in my nature to give up. “Meanwhile Back At The Nest”. This painting has under gone several rethinks and remakes. Is “rethinks” a word? It is now. I will live with this version for a few days and then decide if I am finished or not. It will need a name at some point as well. I hope you are staying well and safe. We can all get through these challenging times. Artist Susan Feniak. Golden Artist Acrylics on 16″ x 20″ x 1.5″ thick canvas. $250.00 Thanks for stopping by.

A long time on the easel!

Progress! As you may know I was on hiatus in Mexico for a month. We returned safely a while back but as you also know things have gone sideways in this old world of ours.

Between getting caught up with work (I work from home) and other commitments there has been precious little time for art and getting caught up with it. I started this painting before we went away. By the time I got back to playing with it I couldn’t remember my original plan. Whether that is my age or these challenging times I don’t know. This is what I am doing with what I started. If all else fails add a nest and some birdies and carry on from there. This is me and my art.

I hope all of you are okay. Please stay healthy and be safe. We can get through this crisis with our art.

An Old One but Worth It

It’s paint a bird day a.k.a. draw a bird day. Sooo I decided to post an old one of mine. We saw this stunning Macaw while in Antigua several years ago. Of course I had to do its portrait. Hope you have enjoyed your paint a bird day and are staying warm and dry. Cheers Susan Feniak
