Looking Up

For lack of a better title I am calling this painting “Looking Up”. I go for a walk everyday and often find myself looking up. This scene is inspired by the nature trails in and around Sicamous British Columbia. Our summer home turf. I highly recommend the trails. Whatever you are doing today take the time to go for a walk and remember to stop and look up. It’s truly fascinating.

The first 3 photos are of my process and the last photo is the final painting. The end result for Looking Up!

Artist Susan Feniak. Golden Artist Acrylics on a 24″ x 24″ deep gallery canvas. Painted on all sides. Asking $350 cdn plus shipping.

“Mara Twilight”

Mara Twilight

“Mara Twilight”. Believe it or not I have completed another painting. I am continually inspired by the views that I am fortunate enough to enjoy during the warmer months of the year. This painting is based on a photo that I took from the back of our houseboat late last summer. It had been a wet stormy day. The weather cleared as the sun set to reveal this glorious scene. I hope you like my second painting of Mara Lake completed so far this year. Okay second painting of Mara Lake in a week.

Artist Susan Feniak. Golden Artist Acrylics on a 20″ x 24″ gallery canvas. Asking $300. If you are interested in my art please email sfeniakart@gmail.com Thank you. Remember my art is original, I do not make prints.

New art in progress…

“Hyde to Mara”. Time for a change from flowers and paint a local scene. Based on a photo I took last summer after the wild fire smoke cleared. The view from Hyde Mountain golf course looking out over Mara Lake in beautiful British Columbia. Remember that this is a work in progress. This is an inspiring view for anyone to enjoy.

World Watercolor Month Day 23

#WorldWatercolorMonth Day 23 prompt “Home”. In the warmer months, April through October home is a boat. Not one of these but a houseboat in Sicamous. Despite wildfires and the resulting smoke it’s still home. Thank you to all the firefighters, waterbomber and helicopter crews for keeping our town safe. Such a dangerous job but so amazing to watch. From a distance. Cheers Susan Feniak

The Red Barn Arts Center annual show

It’s almost time for the annual arts and crafts sale at The Red Barn Arts Center in Sicamous BC. I will have four paintings in the show this year along with several of my “one of a kind” hand painted greeting cards. If you are anywhere near Sicamous June 29th thru July 4th, please take the time to pop by and have a look. It’s well worth your time and effort. It is your chance to purchase from and support the many very talented artists and artisans of the Shuswap area. Cheers Susan Feniak

One framed and one named…

One framed: Once again I called upon my friend to make a frame. My painting “Quietude” needed one of her rustic board frames. I think she did a great job. Many thanks and some wine was involved. THIS PAINTING IS SOLD!

One named: I let my husband make the final decision and he chose “Center Stage” for my latest painting. There were only three votes made and I couldn’t make up my mind. This water lily was inspired by our pond that we used to have. And if I must give more credit I will have to say that an article in the magazine Watercolor Artist, summer 2021 also inspired me to revisit painting a water lily. It’s been awhile. Center Stage is my loosely based acrylic version of a watercolor painting in the article about the artist Brent Funderburk. His work is beautiful.

“Quietude”. The process, progress and changes….

SOLD Here is my latest painting, “Quietude”. Some photos of my process, progress and changes. I almost always forget to take photos of my process and progress. The Shuswap Lake, where I live, is a beautiful area. I continue to try to capture the beauty, ambiance and lighting of where I am fortunate to live. This is an early evening. A lavender sky is not unusual. Stormy weather and restless water are just as common as this idyllic scene. Some day I will try to capture those Shuswap swells and windy conditions. Fortunately those moments are short lived. Unfortunately harder to capture. Artist Susan Feniak. Acrylic on 20″ x 20″ canvas.

“Overseer”

“Overseer “

Overseer, my latest painting is finished. I would like to thank nature photographer Mark Schroeder for the reference photo. This Great Blue Heron is a frequent visitor to the Sicamous Channel Shuswap Lake BC. I try to paint it’s portrait at least once a year. With this portrait I may have finally paid this majestic bird some justice. I hope you like it.

Finished “At Last”

At Last

Finished my first painting of 2021. “At Last” is our houseboat sitting pretty at Robert’s Bay on beautiful Shuswap Lake. I took the reference photo late last summer. It was an idyllic calm morning. Barely a ripple on the lakes surface. Perfect for reflections. I had fun re-creating those reflections. These days our girl is waiting for the sunny warm days to return and so are we. I am keeping this painting. It will hang in our land home to remind us of those sun and fun filled days of the past and to look forward to in the future. Artist Susan Feniak. Acrylic on 18″ x 24″ gallery canvas. FYI If you would like a painting of your boat, I do commissions.
