Cards and more Cards…

It’s a rainy day here. A perfect day to make some more “one of a kind cards”. “Duke and Princess”. Years ago I did a painting similar to this one. At that time I considered it a turning point in my watercolor work. I left it up to the viewer to decide which one is Duke and which one is Princess. I am doing that again this time.

“Fiona” is “Hamish’s” sister. You may remember Hamish from last year. He was a 9″ x 11″ painting. Now hanging in a friend’s home. Fiona is a card I made for another friends birthday. Fiona seems to have managed to get herself into the same predicament as Hamish!

Artist Susan Feniak. Watercolor, gouache and ink on Strathmore card stock. 4″ x 6″.

One framed and one named…

One framed: Once again I called upon my friend to make a frame. My painting “Quietude” needed one of her rustic board frames. I think she did a great job. Many thanks and some wine was involved.

One named: I let my husband make the final decision and he chose “Center Stage” for my latest painting. There were only three votes made and I couldn’t make up my mind. This water lily was inspired by our pond that we used to have. And if I must give more credit I will have to say that an article in the magazine Watercolor Artist, summer 2021 also inspired me to revisit painting a water lily. It’s been awhile. Center Stage is my loosely based acrylic version of a watercolor painting in the article about the artist Brent Funderburk. His work is beautiful.

Cheers Susan Feniak

“Center Stage” or “Pond Gem” ?

“Center Stage” or “Pond Gem”? My latest painting is finished and drying on my easel. As yet I haven’t decided on a title. Although I know the focal point of a painting really shouldn’t be dead center, somehow this water lily seemed to deserve center stage. I haven’t painted a water lily in a very long time. I hope you like it. Artist Susan Feniak. Acrylic on 16″ x 16″ gallery canvas.

Daisy in the Daisies

“Daisy in the Daisies” Just look at that expression and those eye lashes! Some girls have all the luck! Artist Susan Feniak. QoR watercolors and ink on Fabriano paper. Approximately 8″ x 10″.

“Lovey”

Meet “Lovey”. From the moment I started drawing this dog I knew his name would be Lovey. In my imagination he is an oldster with kind and knowing eyes. He also has a constant smile. If you haven’t guessed yet, Lovey got his name from the heart on his forehead. Artist Susan Feniak. QoR watercolors and ink on Fabriano paper.

“Breakpoint”

“Breakpoint”. Artist Susan Feniak. Acrylic on 12″ x 24″ gallery canvas. There is something about a 12″ x 24″ canvas that screams paint a wave Susan. So I do. Waves fascinate me. I can sit and watch them for hours. Living on or near water for most of my life has allowed me that luxury. You can see more of my art @susanseasel #susanseasel

“Quietude”. The process, progress and changes….

Here is my latest painting, “Quietude”. Some photos of my process, progress and changes. I almost always forget to take photos of my process and progress. The Shuswap Lake, where I live, is a beautiful area. I continue to try to capture the beauty, ambiance and lighting of where I am fortunate to live. This is an early evening. A lavender sky is not unusual. Stormy weather and restless water are just as common as this idyllic scene. Some day I will try to capture those Shuswap swells and windy conditions. Fortunately those moments are short lived. Unfortunately harder to capture. Artist Susan Feniak. Acrylic on 20″ x 20″ canvas.

Sold work and a thank you…

SOLD Waves Brilliant Dance
Thank you

This past weekend I sold a painting. “Waves Brilliant Dance”, found a new home. I am always grateful to have someone like my art enough to hang it in their home. I appreciate the fact that art is a personal thing. Thank you to the new owners.

Now, I need to announce that I have new art promotional cards. And I need to thank Hooked Decor and What Knots in Sicamous for displaying my cards again this year. Check out the store. It is full of lovely decor items and inspiration for interior decorating. You can’t miss a real houseboat that is an actual store sitting beside the Trans Canada Highway in Sicamous. A favorite spot for browsing and getting decor ideas for me. Truly an inspirational place to visit.

Working on cards…

Juno

I have been working on cards lately. There are several family birthdays and events coming up. I still like sending cards and enjoy making them. “Juno” is based on a painting I loved in the Artists Magazine March/April 2021 issue. The original was done by artist Johne Richardson. I couldn’t resist Juno’s expression and needed to recreate it. The other two cards are self explanatory. All three cards are QoR watercolor, ink and or gouache. Artist Susan Feniak. My cards sell for $10
