Sunset on Mara. This painting has a lot of meaning for me. It is emotionally charged. Firstly it is the first painting since the death of our youngest son. Secondly it is based on a photo that I took the evening after his death. I could see a bird taking flight in the cloud formation. It was a perfect evening and a spectacular sunset. A beautiful memory to have and hold. Ergo it had to be memorialized on canvas by my hands, brushes and imagination.

The sky fascinates me. I could watch it and the ocean forever. This time my imagination has tried to capture a storm building over the ocean with the sun setting behind the thunderheads. This provides a plethora of color and light effects. Not to mention the layers of cloud and reflections. This one was fun to paint. I let my imagination go and that is always enjoyable.
Although this is my imagination and original work, I was influenced to create this scene by an article in the March 2022 PleinAir Magazine. The article is about artist Lisa Grossman titled Adventures In Skywatching.

“Mara Twilight”. Believe it or not I have completed another painting. I am continually inspired by the views that I am fortunate enough to enjoy during the warmer months of the year. This painting is based on a photo that I took from the back of our houseboat late last summer. It had been a wet stormy day. The weather cleared as the sun set to reveal this glorious scene. I hope you like my second painting of Mara Lake completed so far this year. Okay second painting of Mara Lake in a week.

World Watercolor Month Day 27 prompt “Shine”. I don’t think this sweet little girl and dog admiring the view need any extra explaining. Other than maybe that I created the painting using QoR watercolors and Pixma Micron ink on Strathmore card stock. The artist is me, Susan Feniak. I prefer sandy beaches and sunshine to a snowy and cold Canadian winter. Ergo I am on hiatus in Mexico and away from blogging. Maybe by the time I return to my Canadian home it will be sunnier and warmer. Here’s hoping. In the meantime I am sharing some photos. Enjoy.
Contemplation. If you don’t know me or my art you won’t know I rarely paint people. In fact I can’t remember the last time I tackled a selfie let lone another person. In my world that makes this painting special. The sunset adds to the contemplative moment I tried to capture here. Artist Susan Feniak. Koi watercolour on 8″×10″ Fabriano paper.
