I preferred the unusual. For a girl. I played cars with my older brother a lot. Lego was adored. In my day there were only red or white blocks. Now there is a multitude of sizes and shapes. Oh, I had Barbie dolls, Trolls, a Chatty Cathy doll, Jane West and her horse. I even sewed Barbie’s wardrobe for her. Cut the trolls hair and more then likely Chatty Cathy’s too. Only to learn it didn’t grow back. There were Lincoln logs too. A bike or two a trike and a wagon tied end for end to make into a train. I made my Dad’s old saw horses into pony’s by putting a blanket on them and a hank of rope for reins. But I always came back to playing with Lego and Match Box cars (a.k.a. Dinky cars) with my brother. When I ever had an allowance, 10 or 15 cents, I would buy a new Dinky Car. If it had a door or a hood that opened I would be tickled pink. Simpler days indeed. One had to use their imagination. I was one of those kids that had to be called more then once to come in for dinner. And then I would only eat a peanut butter sandwich because that is all I liked. But that is another story for another time. Hope you have enjoyed revisiting your childhood today thinking of that toy! Cheers. PEACE

There is a lego store here in North Texas, actually a very large shop where kids can go and play, school trips, etc. A great past time Susan. Love your lego and story.

Lego, well what can I say, so simple, and yet so genius. Although I was not really into this stuff, my brother had huge boxes full. Great post, 😀

I loved Lego too! There is still a box somewhere hidden in the cellar and a friend still collects the big ones from Lego Starwars 🙂

I never had Legos as a kid. In fact I never heard of them until I had kids! But playing outside in my make believe world was the best time. Love your watercolor today. 👏🏻👍🏻

Thank you Rhonda. Yes playing outside was the best especially whilst lost in a make believe world. “Lets pretend”. LOL

I love all those toys you mentioned! Hehe. Still… Would you believe I’m a total Lego fan, but only become one as an adult? 😊lol Lovely rendition of a much-loved block! 😃

Our kids and now our grandkids have continued the fan club around here. Perfect excuse for me to build with them still. Thanks Charlie. 🙂

That was so fun hearing about your childhood because mine was so similar. Playing outdoors, playing with my brothers trucks and cars and still tim for my dolls. The really good old days. Thanks for memories 😄

Both my daughters loved legos. I was a child before their time. But nobody had many toys in those days. “Go outside and play!” and we did. (K)

We played outside rain or shine and we didn’t melt! 🙂

Same here. Especially after a summer storm. Nothing like splashing threw those big puddles!!
