National BraveHearts Day. This day is to honor the bravery of the children and their families who are coping with pediatric cancer. As well as their caregivers. No child should ever have to face any illness especially not cancer. My doodlewash today means a lot to me. This is my teddy bear, Fitsimmons. He kept me company while I was sick with cancer. If I could give every child in hospital a teddy bear I would. You see Teddy bears are very special. They keep you company when you are all alone and very sick. They are the best listeners. You can tell them anything, even secrets, and they won’t tell another living soul. They hug you and love you when you need it the most. Because it is hard to be brave. Fitsimmons is holding a heart full of love for every Braveheart today. Please take a moment to remember April 28th and what it means to a sick child. Thank you.

National Tell A Story Day #doodlewashaday

I could have chosen several other options among them Prime Rib Day. Because I am not much of a story teller I thought I would bring your attention to reading a story instead. If you read a book aloud doesn’t it then become telling a story? I think so. Therefore I have doodlewashed the possible jacket cover for a book that was a particular childhood favourite of mine, “The Secret Garden”. Which knowing my parents was read aloud to me as a child, ergo telling a story. I later read “The Secret Garden” several more times myself. Anyway I do hope you get to tell a story today. Tell one to a child. Believe me they will remember it.

#SelfieArt Day not really a #doodlewashaday

So instead of doing my #doodlewashaday I actually tackled a self portrait. A serious one. I am not even in an exotic place this month. Unless you want to take into account this self portrait is based on a photo taken of me on board Holland America’s ship Nieuw Amsterdam in the middle of the Caribbean a couple of winters ago. To make sure the drawing resembled me I put it in front of my husband and asked, “Who is this?”. The answer was correct, “Its you.” Which I will take as a compliment. Yay I did it!! But then hubby added, “With bug eyes.” sigh. Regardless I will post and present to you with a certain amount of pride my #selfie for April 25th 2016.

Sausages wrapped in pastry, although yummy aren’t as much fun to draw as a piglet wearing a blanket. What can I say?

Apparently the date varies from year to year. My Poem as you can plainly see is tucked in my pocket ready to read.
“I wrote a poem
short and sweet.
T’was all about
my dirty feet.”
Bare foot and fancy free. My feet really do look rather dirty. I am full of silliness today. Hope you have a fun filled day too.
I am going to have to take a couple of days off from #doodlewashaday but hopefully I will be back in time for #SelfieArt or before hand. Cheers!

National Lima Bean Respect Day #doodlewashaday

I am afraid the lowly lima bean has never won much respect at our house. Even our dog would lick the plate clean and leave behind the lima beans. All that being said my Father said they were his favourite vegetable. Now whether that was to convince me and the dog to eat them or they truly were his favourite I will never know. But here is the plate licked clean and the lima beans left behind. Poor lima beans.

Its National Garlic Day! Yes I am excited because I love to cook and I love garlic. If you were to be invited to our home for supper we would hope you liked garlic too. Because if everyone eats it we can bare the after effects! Our local farmers grow some of the finest flavourful garlic. Anticipation for harvest time mounts!!

I know that isn’t animal crackers in the jar! At this Grandma’s house the Grandkidlets prefer Goldfish Crackers. So that is what I doodlewashed. I keep the goldfish in an old plastic peanut butter container on a shelf in the pantry exactly where it should be kept full and at the ready. Its obvious by the look of the jar that I need to go shopping! At the moment its the multi cheese version in the jar. To keep things a bit on the healthier side they are often doled out with raisins, dried cranberries or dried blueberries. But sometimes chocolate chips make it into the mix and that brings on big smiles!

It was either that or Bat Appreciation Day. Don’t get me wrong I have absolutely nothing against bats. Its also Haiku Poetry Day. I could muster up a Haiku but having time to illustrate it too? So here you have a cheese board, cheese knife, cheeseball and crackers. Snack time!! Enjoy!
