A wee sketch

Today I am posting a wee sketch.  A memory from my summer break.  Its a channel marker near where we spend a lot of our time on summer weekends.  I was so impressed by something Artscott.net.wordpress.com posted on his blog the other day that I wanted to try it myself.  He used a Q-tip of all things to blend charcoal and water color pencil.  So here is my first attempt using a Q-tip.  I was rather pleased with the result.  I don’t use water colors very often because I seem to bungle them.  Water color pencils have made my life easier.  But a Q-tip?  Who knew? This is awesome!!  Thank you Scott!

By Request

I have been asked to post a comparison.  One between my latest painting “Remember Rendevous”  and a painting I did way back when I first started.  At first I wasn’t willing to share.  No bravery on my part but here it is.  Hopefully its obvious which painting is which.  I do believe there has been some improvement in my efforts over the past couple of years.  Considering I am self taught and all.

Right now I haven’t got any new work on the easel.  I know some inspiration will come along soon!  Ideas are rumbling around in my head.

Less rain and warmer weather will help.  The impending boating season should too.

Here is hoping you think I have been improving.

Cheers, Susan

Remember Rendevous

Original art by Susan Feniak  acrylic on canvas 18” x “36
Asking $175.00 unframed
Summer and remembering that weekend we spent buddied up at Rendevous last year.  Rendevous is one of the many provincial parks we have on Shuswap Lake and is one of our favourite places to anchor.  We try to get to this particular little bay at least once a season.  It boasts a sandy beach barely visible behind our three boats and is a lovely quiet spot as it has water access only.  One of the few protected spots suitable for worry free anchoring on the lake.  That being said the odd storm has been known to disturb our quietude.

This painting is actually a re-visit of one I did when I first started painting several years ago.  I think I wanted to prove to myself that I have been improving.  Perhaps the original version should be posted here for comparison sake but I am not that brave!

Anchored at Hermits Bay

Acrylic on canvas 16”x20” original art by Susan Feniak

Its back to painting one of my favourite subjects.  Boating on the Shuswap.  This is my interpretation of a photo I took last summer while anchored quietly and securely with great friends.  It is actually the same weekend and probably the same day as the photo I took for my painting “Light in Play at Hermits Bay”.  This is the view from up that same hill looking back at our little haven on the lake.

The two boats have been plying the waters of the Shuswap for years.  As silly as this may sound sometimes it seems they have become friends as well.

Certainly glad I take a lot of photos while we are out on the water.  They give me inspiration and provide me with very fond memories.

Grateful that I cannot forget summer will soon return!

Please enjoy!  This painting is available for sale.

Painting Anchored at Hermits Bay

Sunlight in Play at Hermits Bay

Acrylic on Canvas 20”x24” By Susan Feniak
Asking price for this unframed painting $150.00
This was painted from a photo Susan took last summer while anchored at Hermits Bay.  This was our view for several days from the aft deck of our boat.  The sun playing on the moss and grass while shining down threw the trees caught my eye.  This painting is available for sale.

Old Dock Cinnemousun Narrows

Remembering the old docks at Cinnemousun Narrows.  It was a honey of a day on the Shuswap.  Fall, low water, the docks were turned.  We had the place to ourselves.  12″x36″ acrylic on canvas  By Susan Feniak .  This painting is available for sale.
