Inspired….”Crescendo”.

Plus my 2024 FCA badge!
“Crescendo”

Yes, once again the ocean has inspired me. I thoroughly enjoyed playing with my brushes and paint for this one. My imagination was in play as well.

It came to me. I think the perfect title for this one is “Crescendo”. What do you think?

The above photos are in sequence. From a blank canvas, not shown, to the completed creation. A mountainous break. Perhaps my hours of watching the breaks in Ixtapa helped inspire this one.

I have also included my official 2024 Federation of Canadian Artists badge.

“Let Fly”

Let Fly

After several paintings in a row that were time consuming and detail oriented I decided to let fly with a pallet knife and paints.

This painting is the result. I had fun smearing and spreading paint around the canvas. Creating lots of texture. It was a much needed change.

Another one on the easel….WIP

Work in progress…

This week I decided to revisit another painting that I did years ago. That one was titled “My Pink Pond Lillies”.  That painting has long since found it’s forever home.

I haven’t got a title for this version yet and as you can tell it’s still very much a work in progress.  It’s interesting for me to see how much my style has changed or not. And if I have improved or not.

All that being said this painting was requested by someone who may or may not have been serious about that request. When people ask me to paint something I don’t think they realize the time and effort that goes into each piece. Not to mention my heart and soul. I have to charge accordingly. Sometimes that price comes as a bit of a shock. Compared to some artists my prices are not unreasonable. And I can’t give my heart and soul away. Think about it that way. It helps.

When finished this painting will be $300.00

It has a name….

“Woodland Stroll”

Until now my latest painting was nameless. With my husband’s help we’ve given it the title of….drum roll…. “Woodland Stroll”.

Hope you like it.

Finished?

No title

The latest painting is now drying on my easel. What do you think? Are there enough trees for you? There certainly was for me! Ha ha!! There may be a few more tweaks as I live with it. And eventually I need to come up with a title.  Unless of course you the viewers have some suggestions.

The painting is based on another favorite place of mine, the Sicamous Nature Trail. It’s between seasons,  late summer early fall. Leaves are changing colour, trees preparing for the next season.

Process for new painting ….

I am making progress on my latest painting. These are photos of my process.  FYI I start with a totally blank, white, pristine canvas. Sometimes that is daunting in of itself. I seem to be detail oriented these days. Not to mention enjoying creating trees and embracing nature.

Enjoy the sneak peak. I will reveal the painting when I think that I am finished.

Mission Accomplished

Haven Point Memory
Progress, hours and layers

Beginning stages….

Mission accomplished! My first painting and commission of 2024 completed. For me it’s better late than never. I haven’t painted a real painting in months. I was beginning to think and worry that I had lost my touch. I had certainly lost the urge. Happily I discovered none of the above had actually happened. Apparently I just needed a break.

“Haven Point Memory” is a commissioned painting.  Am I ever glad this opportunity was provided. The subject was perfect for me at this time. I needed an escape from all the stuff life, or rather a death, has thrown my way.  Otherwise I may still be floundering in dither land. More simply put I needed to paint. And I needed a reason. Thankfully opportunity struck. Haven Point on Shuswap Lake holds many fond memories for me and many of our friends. Not to mention the person who will eventually receive this painting as a gift. The cabin and it’s surroundings provide a serene, cool and calm place to recoup and regroup.  Perfection.

We are still enjoying our extended vacation in beautiful Ixtapa Mexico. The sunsets are truly fabulous. I believe that I mentioned that several times last year too. I  really haven’t been taking as many photos this year, nor have I been posting or blogging as much. I am just relaxing and inhaling the beauty that surrounds us.

Remember to be kind and stay healthy everyone.  Cheers Susan
