These are photos of my process. FYI I start with a totally blank, white, pristine canvas. Sometimes that is daunting in of itself. I seem to be detail oriented these days. Not to mention enjoying creating trees and embracing nature.
Enjoy the sneak peak. I will reveal the painting when I think that I am finished.

Mission Accomplished

My first painting and commission of 2024 completed. For me it’s better late than never. I haven’t painted a real painting in months. I was beginning to think and worry that I had lost my touch. I had certainly lost the urge. Happily I discovered none of the above had actually happened. Apparently I just needed a break.
“Haven Point Memory” is a commissioned painting. Am I ever glad this opportunity was provided. The subject was perfect for me at this time. I needed an escape from all the stuff life, or rather a death, has thrown my way. Otherwise I may still be floundering in dither land. More simply put I needed to paint. And I needed a reason. Thankfully opportunity struck. Haven Point on Shuswap Lake holds many fond memories for me and many of our friends. Not to mention the person who will eventually receive this painting as a gift. The cabin and it’s surroundings provide a serene, cool and calm place to recoup and regroup. Perfection.

More cards and the start of something big….

After making about a dozen cards I felt it was time or perhaps I was ready to work on something bigger. Silly me jumped right into a commission that was ordered a month or two ago. I don’t know about my fellow artists thoughts on commissions but I put my heart and soul into them. I want perfection. It’s got to be exactly what the person who orders it dreams of or envisions. A hard task, that reading and meeting of minds. Upon reflection I should have started with something for me, something fun, something to flex my creative muscles and blow off the cobwebs. All that being said the commission is coming together nicely although slowly. (It’s the last photo) I am up for the challenge or so it seems. So far. Oh and FYI I put my heart and soul into everything I create.
Artist Susan Feniak. The “one of a kind” cards are watercolors and ink on 5″ x 7″ cards. The painting is a WIP acrylic on a 20″ x 20″ gallery canvas.

These two “one of a kind” cards were dropped off at Rikki Lou Who’s Gift Emporium on Thursday. It’s a lovely shop on Alexander Street downtown Salmon Arm. The owner of the shop likes to carry unique gifts and she supports several local artists. I am grateful for the opportunity. Now if only I could find a venue for some of my bigger paintings.

As you can tell by the subject matter I started this one months ago. At the time I lost interest in it. What can I say? I started several paintings and didn’t finish any of them. It happens. Now I am back on both creative feet and ready to finish what I started.
Now it’s up to you and me to give this painting a title. “Daffo-dum-dilies”, or “Daffodilicious”. My great grandmother used to call daffodils Daffo-dum-dilies. My husband suggested Daffodilicious.

Keeping things simple. Other than puttindg a coat of gesso on a 24″ x 24″ canvas I haven’t spent any time at my easel. Not since coming home from Mexico. I haven’t felt like it. I thought that I had lots of inspiration and was ready to get busy but as soon as I stand at my easel all is lost. Perhaps I have a bit of a block happening? On the other hand I am able to create these cards. A veritable plethora of them. I am having fun with them, they make me smile. That is sufficient, for now.
