Rainy Day Musings

Original art by Susan Feniak  It was a two painting day!  Being unable to get motivated and work in my office I decided to spend a quiet day with my art supplies.  I played with my water colors, water color pencils and archival ink.  Since I am lucky enough to have several sketch books I was able to work on one sketch while the other one dried.   The first painting is of the field at the end of our street.  I admit to using some artist discretion and added a barn and path where there was neither.  It is a rather neglected weedy field.  Every year someone bales it and then leaves the bales to moulder away until next years crop.  I am certain the bales are homes to many a furry creature come winter!

The second painting of the day is another of my Killdeer chicks that I have grown rather fond of painting!  May I introduce you to “Goink”.  He is a rather long legged wee chap.  If you were to ask me I would also say irresistible!

I could not have spent my quiet rainy day in a better way!  How about you?

Cheers, Susan Feniak

“Sproink” the baby Killdeer

original art by Susan Feniak  Water colors, water color pencil, pencil and archival Ink on 8.5” x 11”  paper.

This one is for my friend Cathy.  Just to make her smile.  Maybe someday I will make an acrylic painting of this bird just for her but in the meantime I hope she enjoys this fellow as much as she enjoys the photo!!

My Pink Pond Lilies

Original art by Susan Feniak  Acrylic on 18” x 24” box canvas

Finished! As soon as I saw these two beauties in my pond this summer I knew I was going to have to put them onto canvas.  These days there hasn’t been enough time to enjoy being happy at my easel.  Today I made that time to play.  The overwhelming need for something beautiful and good in my life and the urge to escape into painting la la land overtook me.  It felt good and I think the end result shows. $200.00 plus shipping and handling will get you this painting!

Let me know what you think.  Cheers, Susan A favorite of mine, available for $250 plus shipping and handling

In Progress

A first for me.  Sharing my work while it is still in progress.  But I just wanted to let everyone know that I have finally found some time to spend at my easel.  Can you see me smiling?

A painting gets a new home!

Today my painting “A Lazy Eagle River” got a new home.   A Happy 60th Birthday present to my sister, Kathy!  Since I think it is one of my best paintings to date and a particular favourite of mine it is a special enough gift for a 60th celebration.  I know it has a good home and will be enjoyed.

Another Doodle from Hermits Bay

Just home from 11 sleeps on board “Lifeline”.  What a grand way to spend ones vacation time.  This is the only drawing or doodle I managed to produce the entire time.  That should say just how much of a vacation we were enjoying!  I will get back into normal just as soon as I can.  It may take awhile!!!

“The Dream Was”

Original art by Susan Feniak  acrylic on 16” x 20” box canvas.

Recently my Mother expressed an interest in having one of my paintings.  She told me which wall she would like to hang it on and which paintings she preferred.  We settled on “The Homestead”.  But then I started to think about my Mother and the things she likes.  She has often referred to a dream that was to be a part of my parents retirement years.  That dream was to retire by the water somewhere and live in an “A” frame house or cabin.  Sadly that dream has never come true.  I have attempted to paint that dream.  Not an easy task because this is my concept of what that dream may have been and not perhaps what my Mother has envisioned all these years.  If nothing else it is bright and cheery and it includes some of my Mother’s favourite flowers, yellow daisies.

More Hermits Bay Doodles

Original art, sketches, by Susan Feniak  water color pencil, ink and pencil combination on Cranson Multi Media paper.  We are in the middle of a heat wave here.  The perfect place to be is on the aft deck of Lifeline anchored out on the lake somewhere.  This time I had my sketch book and some art supplies.  There was a dead tree on shore not far from where we were.  I found it to be an interesting subject.  The other sketch is of one of my favourite scenes at Hermits Bay.  It speaks for itself.  A funky rock formation with tenacious trees hanging on for dear life.

Lifeline at Anchor (the painting)

Original Art By Susan Feniak  Acrylic on 16” x 20” box canvas

Of course you realized my first painting in such a long time had to be of our new lady, “Lifeline”.  Here she is anchored at one of our favourite spots, Hermits Bay, on Shuswap Lake.  It was a perfect day.  Who wouldn’t be inspired?  Hope you enjoy the view.

Cheers, Susan She is our boat so the painting is NFS sorry
