Race Rocks Lighthouse

Original art by Susan Feniak.  Holbein Water Colors, Derwent Water Color Pencils, Pigma Ink on Opus Essentials Sketch Book.  Several weeks ago a close friend gave me a funky frame that screamed driftwood and beach to me.  I had to come up with an idea that was all about the ocean or beach.  Ergo a lighthouse painting.  A first for me.  But from the kelp beds in the foreground, the Seals sunning on the rocks along with the plethora of Cormorants I love this scene.  Anyone that knows the west coast of British Columbia knows this lighthouse.  I hope I have captured it.  There was special attention paid to the clouds but again getting a good photo of one of my paintings has stymied me.  Paintings behind glass harder yet!!  Hope you like it!

Red Cardinal

A quick sketch by Susan Feniak .  Derwent Water Color Pencils, Holbein Water Colors, Pigma Ink on Opus Essential Sketch Book paper.

These chilly days of November give me a few more hours to spend drawing and experimenting with my water colors.  This time I played with splattering the paint.  It is rather fun.  I hope you like my Red Cardinal in the snow.

Cheers, Susan Feniak

Variegated Holly

A quick sketch by Susan Feniak.  Derwent water color pencils and Pigma ink on Opus Essential Sketch Book  A favourite time of year is on the way so my thoughts are starting to turn to all things Christmas.  To me Christmas time is the one high point of winter.  Crisp, cool, sun filled days are few and far between so they are very much enjoyed as well.  Today is such a day.  I will be sure to go for a walk and point my sun starved face toward the orb in the sky!

Cheers, Susan Feniak

Lazy DL

Original art by Susan Feniak  framed acrylic on small canvas and a sketch in water color based on a photo.

Recently we were invited to a party that celebrated a couples joint 60th Birthday, 40th Wedding Anniversary and their retirement.  Since it is impossible to find a greeting card that includes all those celebrations in one I decided to make them a card.  We go boating together so I felt the perfect subject would be a painting of their boat “Lazy D L”.  I only had a small photo to go by so the magnifying glass had to be brought out. Then what started as a card ended up as a 4” x 6” small painting on canvas that I then framed and wrapped up for them.  I do hope they like it.  We certainly enjoyed the party! A gift so NFS

Rainy Day Musings

Original art by Susan Feniak  It was a two painting day!  Being unable to get motivated and work in my office I decided to spend a quiet day with my art supplies.  I played with my water colors, water color pencils and archival ink.  Since I am lucky enough to have several sketch books I was able to work on one sketch while the other one dried.   The first painting is of the field at the end of our street.  I admit to using some artist discretion and added a barn and path where there was neither.  It is a rather neglected weedy field.  Every year someone bales it and then leaves the bales to moulder away until next years crop.  I am certain the bales are homes to many a furry creature come winter!

The second painting of the day is another of my Killdeer chicks that I have grown rather fond of painting!  May I introduce you to “Goink”.  He is a rather long legged wee chap.  If you were to ask me I would also say irresistible!

I could not have spent my quiet rainy day in a better way!  How about you?

Cheers, Susan Feniak

“Sproink” the baby Killdeer

original art by Susan Feniak  Water colors, water color pencil, pencil and archival Ink on 8.5” x 11”  paper.

This one is for my friend Cathy.  Just to make her smile.  Maybe someday I will make an acrylic painting of this bird just for her but in the meantime I hope she enjoys this fellow as much as she enjoys the photo!!
