Painting Chickadee Christmas

Winter Chickadees

original art by Susan Feniak  water colour pencil on paper  Tomorrow is Draw a Bird Day but I have gone bird crazy here so am able to post this one today and another is ready for the official day.  These two look as impressed with the fact that it is winter as I am.  Grumpy?  No matter, it is winter and there is nothing they or I can do about it.  Cheer up!!  At least they don’t have a dump of snow on them like my cardinals do!

Quick Lets Go South

I decided to take a day off from all the pre Christmas fun and games of shopping, decorating, baking, wrapping, cleaning, entertaining and all the other things associated with that upcoming event.  Time to do some art.  Now that is a switch!! Time for art??  Since it is a rather soggy sunless day in these parts I came up with a plan to paint a pair of cardinals.  You know, just to get me into a better Christmas frame of mind.  One thing led to another and the next thing I knew the cardinals were looking a little too snow bound and frazzled.  Ergo, “Quick Lets Go South”!!  I like to think the one cardinal is pointing in that direction.  It looks to me like he is. Enjoy!  Cheers, Susan

Draw a Bird Day

IMG_20151110_094317740 It was draw a bird day on November 8th.  Due to computer issues and a busy schedule I missed it.  Here I have cropped an older painting of mine called “Bath Time” and am posting it as my contribution.  Better late then never!!  Cheers, Susan

“A Birds Eye View”

original art By Susan Feniak  acrylic on 24” x 36” canvas

A bit of whimsy for all of you and my imagination at work.  Picture if you will a grassy field smattered with wild flowers.  Countless birds happily singing and flitting about.  This painting is how that field would look threw the eye of a bird.  Or as I imagine it would.  Hopefully you can picture this bright sunny day too.  As you may be able to tell I am thinking of sun filled days and missing the colors, sounds, smells and warmth of them.  A happy place!

Cheers, Susan Feniak

Another in progress

Original art in progress on my easel. by Susan Feniak    I wouldn’t want anyone thinking I am just wasting time around here!!!  See me smile?  But due to another sleepless night.  (Being sleepless is just me being me.)  I came up with an idea for a new painting.  Since I didn’t feel well enough equipped to attempt much of anything else today I decided to put said idea onto canvas.  This is the biggest canvas I have tackle in a while and did I ever have fun with my brushes and paints.  Almost enough to make me forget all about the sleepless night!  There is a lot more left to do but the painting is of the world as a bird might see it. A Birds Eye View.

Cheers, Susan Feniak

Red Cardinal

A quick sketch by Susan Feniak .  Derwent Water Color Pencils, Holbein Water Colors, Pigma Ink on Opus Essential Sketch Book paper.

These chilly days of November give me a few more hours to spend drawing and experimenting with my water colors.  This time I played with splattering the paint.  It is rather fun.  I hope you like my Red Cardinal in the snow.

Cheers, Susan Feniak

Long Beach BC

original art by Susan Feniak  Holdbein Water Color on Canson Mix Media 7” x 10” paper

A quick sketch today.  I managed to produce this one in about one hours time.  Recently my Brother, Sister and Mother took a trip to Long Beach on Vancouver Island.  A life long dream of my Sister’s fulfilled.  While there she took many photo’s and video’s which she has since shared with me.  Of course I was immediately inspired.  In my quest to practice more with water colors I bought myself a nice new set of Holbein Water Colors.  What do you think?  Have they helped me?

Thinking of my Sister this day.  Enjoy! Susan Feniak
