Afternoon art time

Some afternoon’s I have time to sit down and play with the watercolours and paper/cards that I brought with me to Mexico.  There is very little room in my suitcase for art supplies but I manage to bring a few bits and bobs.

Admittedly I spend more time gazing at our amazing view. But on occasion I do manage to get in the zone and create. The dolphins were a lot of fun!

Christmas cards? I guess they will become part of a stock pile for next year. Maybe they will actually get sent to someone.

Christmas is just around the corner. Where did that year go?

Enjoy! May your Christmas be merry and full of love. Shared with those you love. Hold them near. Peace.

A little art

I have been making a few Christmas cards. I couldn’t possibly let Christmas go by without making them.

We will be in Mexico for Christmas this year. It will be very different for us. But you know what they say, a change is as good as a rest. It was or is time to change things up. Make new traditions.

All that being said I made cards anyway. I just won’t be sending any. A select few got my 2026 calendar, which I ordered early.

Over the years I have spent hours creating individual cards for our friends and family. Since we receive very few cards in return, it seems sending Christmas cards is becoming a thing of the past. That is rather sad. Sending and receiving the annual greeting was something to look forward to. It was often the only time you would hear from some people.

Traditions change as do we. Time continues to fly.

Enjoy my wintery scenes. I for one will continue to not miss snow.

I am still here….

I am still here in beautiful Ixtapa Mexico. I did say that I would post any art that I manage to do. So….the above are the six “one of a kind” cards that I made to donate to a silent auction in support of the elderly peoples of Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo. There are no pensions, no old age security here so if you don’t have family to help you or the wherewithal to maintain a home or have food and a roof over your head there is no support for you. Think about that for a moment!

We are fortunate.

For the last several years while staying here we have donated to this event and cause.

September was a busy month…

Carey, my husband

September was a busy month. Carey, my husband retired! At 71 years young it was time. Anyway it was cause for celebration. We also celebrated his birthday. In between all the celebrating I was busily filling an order for 10 of my “one of a kind” Christmas cards. Sorry, but it is that time of year again.  When an artist has to plan and come up with fresh ideas for Christmas. In between that creativity I was making more cards to sell at a store here in Sicamous called, Willow. There was the limited edition 2025 calendars to design.  And more painting and creating with Mara Muse, my favorite piece so far this year. I didn’t include a photo of it but you can check it out on a previous blog.

So, as you can see September was a busy month. Now I have to settle down and start the long process of getting our houseboat ready for winter. We will be moving to town soon and closing At Last for the season.

Hope everyone had a fabulous summer. Cheers

Cards

I am fortunate to have a local business owner who is providing space for me to show and hopefully sale my “one of a kind” cards. I am grateful to April from “Willow” a ladies clothing store on Main Street in Sicamous. Several cards have sold so I got busy and made some more. The photos represent the new ones that I dropped off the other day and as far as I know are still available.

More cards and the start of something big….

Commission begins WIP

Getting my groove back, see previous post, involved starting with small things like my “one of a kind” cards. After making about a dozen cards I felt it was time or perhaps I was ready to work on something bigger. Silly me jumped right into a commission that was ordered a month or two ago. I don’t know about my fellow artists thoughts on commissions but I put my heart and soul into them. I want perfection. It’s got to be exactly what the person who orders it dreams of or envisions. A hard task, that reading and meeting of minds. Upon reflection I should have started with something for me, something fun, something to flex my creative muscles and blow off the cobwebs. All that being said the commission is coming together nicely although slowly. (It’s the last photo) I am up for the challenge or so it seems. So far. Oh and FYI I put my heart and soul into everything I create.

Getting my groove back…

SOLD

We have moved to the lake for the next 5 to 6 months. Our home is a 50 foot houseboat on the Shuswap. I look forward to the lazy days of summer. When all the estate matters for my mother have been dealt with. When I can find inspiration and create.

In the meantime…it snowed on the hills overnight and our furnace isn’t working. It is cold and blustery. The houseboat rocking. Getting my fingers to work could be a problem. It will be a stay indoors, try to stay warm, kind of day. Time for art. Get my groove back. A good thing.

I have been having fun creating this series of “Flamazing” cards. Who wouldn’t have fun with flamingos? They are flippin’ flamazing! I hope my silly sense of humor and creativity has made you smile. Although light hearted these cards do carry a message. Just sayin’
