Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

“May your season be merry and bright.”

Sadly because of the Canada post strike our 2024 Christmas cards couldn’t be sent this year. Posting on social media will have to suffice.

2024 paintings part 2! Please see my previous post for part 1 and the explanation for why I had to make parts 1 and 2!

I think that I produced a lot of art work in 2024. I know many of you create a lot more than I but considering my artistic year didn’t start until late March at the earliest, 17 larger pieces seems a fair amount.

Remember that I also created countless of my “one of a kind” cards too. I haven’t included photos of them or my smaller pieces.

At this time I would like to thank you, my friends, followers and collectors for your continued support. It helps me to know that what I create is indeed appreciated. Your support helps me to continue on this journey of mine.

Cheers Susan Feniak

“Heartsease”

Heartsease

The latest revision has a title, “Heartsease”.  Our much loved view of Mara Lake BC. Tranquility. This painting was previously named Mara Twilight. The lighting of that painting was indeed twilight. I prefer showing Mara on a bright sunny day. Those of us fortunate enough to enjoy its beauty are very much aware that storms can stir Mara up into a frenzy of wild waves and whitecaps. That’s reality. It’s far more appealing  to remember the idyllic moments.

On a cold snowy day…

Another Revision
Mara Twilight 2022
Primer the bits I don’t want…
The revision process…
Pretty much a total redo, lighten and brighten

It’s the first real cold snowy day we’ve had so far this fall. So what does an artist do? Paint a bright sunny day!

I painted Mara Twilight back in 2022. It’s moved from wall to wall at our house.  It’s featured on my 2024 calendar this month but it’s had no real interest or inquiries. I decided it needed brightening up. So I nixed the darkness of twilight and changed it to a bright sunny day. It’s much the same as my painting “Mara Muse”.  I miss that painting so this one may replace it.

Not only did I totally change the painting I will have to change the title too.  Any suggestions?

Finished revising Ebb and Flow

Revised Ebb and Flow

Ebb and Flow has seen a lot of changes over the last couple of days. I am happier with this new version. So far. I am fickle. There could possibly be a few more tweaks but for now I am saying “done”.  To see this painting pre revision please visit my previous post.

If you like the new version or even if you don’t feel free to let me know. Constructive criticism is welcome.

Floral Extravaganza

Floral Extravaganza
Newly decorated bedroom

I am calling my latest painting, Floral Extravaganza, done! Since it’s still drying some more tweaking could happen.  In my previous blog I shared the beginning of this painting. Days and hours of creating later here it is. If only an artist got paid by the hour!

Normally I don’t try to match or do art specifically to match a room, or furniture, or bedding. My rule of thumb is if you love it will work.  But the new bedding was calling me to create Floral Extravaganza.

Today my husband and I quietly celebrated our 49th wedding anniversary. We both can’t believe it’s been 49 years. Time truly does fly. Love does conquer all of life’s foibles.

“Mara Muse” SOLD

From the kitchen of our boat!
“Mara Muse” 🔴

This paintinghas since Sold. 🔴 “Mara Muse”. I have been trying to capture the view from the aft deck of our houseboat for 8 years. That’s how long we’ve owned our boat. I think that I succeeded today! Yay! I have made several attempts but this one makes my heart sing. See me smile. Funny something that is so near and dear can be so difficult to duplicate. But not today. I started and finished this painting in one day. Yes, you read that correctly, one day. I found the zone. Nothing feels better to an artist than that zone. Trust me.

Labor of love. “Day’s Eye”

Day’s Eye 🔴 SOLD

“Day’s Eye”. This latest painting has been a labor of love. Memories of our youngest son’s life and loss kept me going on this one. I needed an out and the best way for me to accomplish that is paint, to escape. Go to my happy place. For HOURS!! Or wallow, and I don’t do that.

Also, for those of you that haven’t figured it out yet, I love flowers. Once upon a time I was a florist and designer extraordinaire.

For the photo credit I would like to thank, photographer and friend David Oakes. He very kindly gave me permission to use his photo of these glorious daisy’s.  Thank you David.

It’s been awhile…

“One of a kind” wood coasters
More “One of a kind” coasters
The start
Let the layers begin…

It has been some time since my last post. It’s not that I haven’t been creating. I have indeed  been painting or planning and gathering ideas. The truth is that I have no idea why I haven’t posted something. Perhaps it’s because I get very little traffic on my website or because I don’t have time. Perhaps I am too busy doing the aforementioned creating, planning and painting. Whatever there are reasons and excuses. These days it seems that time is at a premium for everyone.

I have decided to expand on my “one of a kind” greeting cards and start making “one of a kind” wood coasters. They are all hand painted and everyone is different.  Acrylic on approximately 4″ round or square coasters. The raw edge round coasters are a bit smaller. I am varnishing them to protect them from heat and moisture. And testing them to make sure they are protected.

I have also started another painting which when finished will be acrylic on a 20″ x 20″ gallery wrapped canvas. I will give the photo credit to a friend when the painting is complete. I am grateful to that friend for giving me permission to use his beautiful photo.

In the meantime have a fabulous weekend. Cheers Susan

“The Sun and Moon” Sold 🔴

Sold 🔴 “The Sun and Moon.” Or El sol y la luna. The latest painting drying on my easel. One of my favorite places is Zihuatanejo Mexico. A fishing village on the Pacific coast. This painting is my depiction of two Zihua fishing boats, known as pangas, resting at anchor. Normally at the end of the day these boats are hauled up onto the beach. But I wanted to show how beautiful the water is so my boats are at anchor. I have painted many boats without issue but these two started out a bit wonky. I am pretty sure I fixed that. And before anyone mentions it, yes I broke a rule and placed the boats dead centre!! No rule of thirds in this one. It’s about the colors, ocean, and boats. My loves.
