High Water Sweepers. Artist Susan Feniak. Golden Artist Acrylics on a 18″ x 24″ gallery canvas. Purely from my imagination this scene could easily be along the Eagle River. The river is situated in the Shuswap Lake area of British Columbia. Sweepers are a danger to all river traffic. In particular kayaker’s and stand up paddle boarders. A person can easily get entangled in the hidden snares and snags of branches and roots. Sweepers are prevalent particularly this time of year during run off season and high water levels. Or like on a rainy day like today. As for my painting I am hoping it leaves the viewer relaxed and the natural beauty of the surroundings enjoyed. Cheers Susan Feniak. I had to bring all my art home from Gallery One Fifty today. We live and work on the shore of Shuswap Lake and the lake has decided to flood this year. As of last weekend the lake had risen 17 feet. It does come up every year. But because of a high snow pack in the back country this winter the lake is exceptionally high. Gallery One Fifty decided for safety sake that we artists should get our art out. The gallery will reopen as soon as the flood threat ends and the limitations of COVID 19 are lifted. Meanwhile I will get to enjoy one of my own paintings hanging up in our houseboat summer home. Misty Morning has always been a particular favorite of mine. FYI An artist isn’t supposed to bring all her art home especially all at once. I have no idea where I will put the rest!

Water water everywhere! I am naming my latest water themed painting ” The Zone”. Simply because I got into a zone whilst painting it. By the time I decided that it was finished I was sure hours had passed. Or at least the entire afternoon. It had only taken me an hour and a half from start to finish. Does this happen to any of you?

Waves Brilliant Dance. My latest painting is still drying on my easel. These days the ocean and waves seem to be my muse. That comes as no surprise to me. To achieve the texture I used several different palette knives and a credit card. The entire painting was done without a brush. Admittedly this technique is hard on my acrylic paint supply. Even using Goldens soft gel gloss to extend my paint it sucked up lots. Did I have fun? No need to ask. Did I make a big mess with paint smeared everywhere, even on my phone? You bet. A joyful mess. I am pleased with the end result.

Work in progress on my easel. It’s waiting for me to finish. After several beautiful sun filled days yesterday we had clouds with showers. It was an art attack kind of day. A White Heart

I read in our local paper this weekend about the White Heart Project. The Shuswap Hospital Foundation requested that we show our support of health care workers by hanging a white heart on our doors. I decided to participate. Since our white heart would hang on a door that very few will see I am going to hang it in a window. I doubt it matters where one hangs their white heart as long as one shows how thankful they are to all the Doctors, nurses, caregivers and support staff that are working endlessly to keep as many as possible safe and well. Thank you. Two words that seem like such a small gesture of support. Perhaps if everyone participated all the health care workers would feel our gratitude and support. Hang a White Heart on your door or in your window and give thanks for being as fortunate as we are. The White Heart is a symbol of HOPE. We are lost without hope. Take care everyone. I am excited because I had my painting “Shine On” a.k.a. “Trudy Tortuga” printed on canvas shopping bags. As you may know I do not make prints of my art. I made an exception this time. I support living a sustainable life style. Reusable shopping bags is a big part of that sustainability. The original painting Shine On is staying in my private collection. Therefore no one can be upset that I made copies of a painting they have bought. There were 7 bags available. I am down to three. So Trudy is a popular tortuga. She remains a favourite of mine and greets visitors at our door with her smile. Hopefully we can have visitors again one day soon. Stay well my friends.
