“Hyde to Mara”. Time for a change from flowers and paint a local scene. Based on a photo I took last summer after the wild fire smoke cleared. I was asked to paint some purple Iris’s awhile back. Several months ago actually. I decided that it was time to see if I was up to the challenge. The photos are of my step by step process, progress and changes. Still very much a work in progress but I thought I would share anyway. I am enjoying myself and I am embracing my purple and violet hues, again. No photo reference, all original. Talk about flying by the seat of my pants. Ha ha!

Work or play? My newest in progress painting is on the easel. I am having fun playing with the light on the water and in the sky. As a rule, after the ground or base coat, I start from the furthest point away, usually the sky, and work my way forward. Right or wrong? I don’t know, it’s just how I’ve always done it. My imagination is working overtime on this one. This is also one of the biggest paintings I have done.

The Christmas tree is down and my easel is back up. You guessed it. My easel usually sits where the Christmas tree was. I don’t have a studio or art room. I paint in a corner of our living room. It’s nice to be back to creating. This painting has been sitting around for far too long and is still a work in progress. I hope to finish it soon. Cheers Susan Feniak

I started this painting ages ago, perhaps a month has gone by. The Christmas card assembly line has taken over my art space and my paying job has sucked up my time. I haven’t managed to get back to this painting to finish it. Between one thing and another there just hasn’t been enough hours in my days. Since I am looking forward to retiring soon I will have more time. Maybe then this painting will finally get my attention. Looking forward to it. Cheers Susan Feniak.

I had so much fun creating my last painting that I decided to do another floral piece. It helps that I have a beautiful bunch of sunflowers sitting on our table to inspire me. After this, I think that I will be finished with florals for awhile. It will be time for something else. I hope you enjoy my progress reports….

My first painting of 2021 is in progress on my easel. It’s coming together ever so slowly. The photo reference is my own taken late last summer of our houseboat at beautiful Robert’s Bay on Shuswap Lake. It was an idyllic morning with the lake perfectly calm and flat. Reflections galore! Golden Artist Acrylics on an 18″ x 24″ gallery canvas. When this painting is finally done it’s not going anywhere. It will hang on our living room wall.

I am working on a couple of dog portraits. This is a much loved and missed black lab named Grizzly. A.K.A. Grizz. I find that I put my heart and soul into pet portraits. I wonder, do other artists find that they do that too? When next you see Grizz I hope his posthumous portrait is completed and his owner is pleased. This is the biggest pet portrait that I have done thus far at 16″ x 16″ x 1.5″ acrylic on canvas. Wish me luck. Cheers Susan

Work in progress on my easel. It’s waiting for me to finish. After several beautiful sun filled days yesterday we had clouds with showers. It was an art attack kind of day.
