Tide Abandoned. It was time to do a watercolor and ink. I have been making a lot of greeting cards but no watercolor painting of substance. Hope you like my sun bleached wreck seemingly abandoned by the tide. This painting is available at Three Buoys Marina on Riverside Ave in Sicamous. Asking $125.

Work in progress on my easel. It’s waiting for me to finish. After several beautiful sun filled days yesterday we had clouds with showers. It was an art attack kind of day. I am never sure if I should share my works in progress. Being self taught my progress could seem very wrong to the experts. But it works for me. Artist Susan Feniak. “Higuera Blanca Breakers”. While visiting Mexico this past winter I was inspired many times. Perhaps the beach we visited with friends while at Higuera Blanca inspired me the most. It had been a wild windy morning and the Pacific Ocean had whipped itself into an amazing show of powerful frothy surf. Standing on the beach left one feeling dwarfed by the size of the breakers. It was exhilarating. Froth, salt spray, wind and all.
Since our stay in Mexico I am struck by how life has changed. Not just for me personally but for everyone. This is a worldwide crises that includes us all. New expressions like self isolating and social distancing have become our new normal. Being house bound isn’t a difficult thing for an artist. It provides extra hours for one to be creative. There is no fear of boredom. There is no opportunity for that thought to enter our busy minds. For those that are struggling with being “stuck” at home may I suggest that you get yourself some crayons and paper and draw. Be creative. Creativity is the perfect escape from these challenging times. You never know you could very well surprise yourself and us.
Higuera Blanca Breakers is acrylic on 18″ x 24″ x 1.5″ thick canvas. Painted on all sides no frame needed. Artist Susan Feniak. $300

I prefer sandy beaches and sunshine to a snowy and cold Canadian winter. Ergo I am on hiatus in Mexico and away from blogging. Maybe by the time I return to my Canadian home it will be sunnier and warmer. Here’s hoping. In the meantime I am sharing some photos. Enjoy.

Hermit Bay. My latest painting. I need to come up with a name for this one yet. This was the view from our kitchen window on our houseboat last week while beached at Hermit Bay on Shuswap Lake. How fortunate am I to have this view rain or shine while cooking our meals? This painting is acrylic on 12″ x 16″ box canvas. Cheers Susan

If you don’t know me or my art you won’t know I rarely paint people. In fact I can’t remember the last time I tackled a selfie let lone another person. In my world that makes this painting special. The sunset adds to the contemplative moment I tried to capture here. Artist Susan Feniak. Koi watercolour on 8″×10″ Fabriano paper.
