Work or play? My newest in progress painting is on the easel. I am having fun playing with the light on the water and in the sky. As a rule, after the ground or base coat, I start from the furthest point away, usually the sky, and work my way forward. Right or wrong? I don’t know, it’s just how I’ve always done it. My imagination is working overtime on this one. This is also one of the biggest paintings I have done.

“Ebb and Flow”. My latest painting. As in life, water has ebbs and flow. Or maybe I mean as in water and the ocean tides, life has its ebbs and flow. Regardless, this painting reminds me of my brother and his love of the ocean. I was thinking of him while painting it. One of his favorite places was Tofino, situated on the west coast of Vancouver Island. I will and am missing my brother but I have all the happy wonderful memories of all the times spent with him. A lifetime. Dedicated to David, with love, Ebb and Flow. Gone, never to be forgotten.

Drying on my easel, “Sail Away”. I took a bit of a break after World Watercolor Month and a very busy July. Of a sudden yesterday I had the urge to put palette knife, brush and paint to canvas. Oh joy! Artist Susan Feniak. Golden Artist Acrylics and heavy gel gloss on a 20″ x 20″ canvas. There is a lot of texture in this one. And it was a lot of fun, I even used a credit card to spread and smear the paint. A true escape from the trial and tribulations this past few weeks have thrown at us. Let me know what you think. It’s almost time for the annual arts and crafts sale at The Red Barn Arts Center in Sicamous BC. One framed: Once again I called upon my friend to make a frame. My painting “Quietude” needed one of her rustic board frames. I think she did a great job. Many thanks and some wine was involved. THIS PAINTING IS SOLD!
One named: I let my husband make the final decision and he chose “Center Stage” for my latest painting. There were only three votes made and I couldn’t make up my mind. This water lily was inspired by our pond that we used to have. And if I must give more credit I will have to say that an article in the magazine Watercolor Artist, summer 2021 also inspired me to revisit painting a water lily. It’s been awhile. Center Stage is my loosely based acrylic version of a watercolor painting in the article about the artist Brent Funderburk. His work is beautiful.

“Breakpoint”. Artist Susan Feniak. Acrylic on 12″ x 24″ gallery canvas. There is something about a 12″ x 24″ canvas that screams paint a wave Susan. So I do. Waves fascinate me.
